Staffing & Committee
Sheriff Hutton Playgroup is a community-run group with charitable status, owned and run by the parents and carers of children who attend sessions. Playgroup simply couldn’t run without parental help and support.
The playgroup is well established and has been operating since 1971. Sheriff Hutton Village Hall is an excellent venue as the large hall enables a wide range of activities and equipment to be available at any one time. Equipment is well maintained and updated as the need arises, often with help from parents at fundraising events.
Supervisors
There are currently 2 or 3 supervisors in attendance at every session along with parents/carers helping on a rota system. This gives a good ratio of adults to children and we meet the statutory requirements. The supervisors are all appropriately qualified in line with national guidelines including up-to-date First Aid training. All members of staff are encouraged to attend courses for further training when appropriate.
Committee
A volunteer committee is elected every year (at the Annual General Meeting in summer) to manage and oversee playgroup. If you would like to be involved, do tell someone! All parents and carers (including those who cannot attend sessions or evening meetings) are always welcome to share ideas and their feedback is valued and appreciated.
Inspections
Playgroup has been inspected by Social Services every 2 years to ensure that the required standard of childcare is met. In 2001, we joined North Yorkshire’s Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership, and this will include OFSTED inspections every 1 or 2 years. Inspection reports and action plans are circulated to parents. Read our latest Ofsted inspection report from June 2010. (http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report)
