Sheriff Hutton Pre-School Playgroup

Babies and Toddlers is a meeting place for Mums, Dads and other carers with their babies, toddlers and older siblings. Looking after a baby or young child can be very hard work, so it's good to find a friendly, relaxed, informal, safe environment where young children are really welcome!

We have a good range of toys & equipment for babies and children and they are free to choose their own activities. During good weather, children also have access to an outdoor play area.

During the session there is a refreshment time. Children bring a piece of fruit to share and there is a drink of milk or juice available and tea/coffee for the adults. The session ends with a short circle time of nursery rhymes and action songs.

As well as giving parents and carers the opportunity to meet and chat with each other, Babies and Toddlers sessions can help children to prepare socially and emotionally for playgroup. 

Once a month the local health visitor visits, offering confidential help and advice on a 'drop in' basis.

Sessions are run by Margaret Fisher and Angela Smedley with the support of Sheriff Hutton Pre-School Playgroup.

In addition to the weekly term-time sessions, there are a number of special events through the year, such as a Christmas coffee morning, a Christmas party, an Easter fun day and a day trip to Scarborough. During the summer holidays, a weekly meeting place is usually arranged in advance at a local park or playground.

Times, charges and helping out

Babies and Toddlers runs every Thursday morning during school term time between 9.45 am and 11.45 am. You can drop in any time - there is really no pressure to arrive at a certain time! There is no formal rota but help with setting up (from 9 o'clock) washing up and putting equipment away at the very end of the session is always appreciated.

The charge per family for a Thursday morning session is £3.50 (per family) or £2 if you are just bringing your baby. Either way, pay on arrival. (A subsidised fee is also available. Please talk to Margaret to find out more about this.)
